Modular Design of Secure yet Practical Cryptographic Protocols (Cramer 1997)

Summary

Ronald Cramer's doctoral dissertation, which introduces Sigma-protocols as a general, reusable building block bridging theoretical and practical cryptography. Gives zero-knowledge proof systems for circuit satisfiability with improved communication efficiency, witness-hiding protocols for monotonic logical conditions, and digital signature schemes provably secure against adaptive attacks while remaining implementable on smart cards. The origin of the "Sigma protocol" terminology used throughout later sigma-protocol literature.
